A month in the Valley
Phoenix is the heart of a metro area of about five million people that locals call the Valley: Phoenix itself, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and more, joined by freeways. For a stay of weeks, choose the part of the Valley you need every day, the clinic, the campus or the office, and then the hotel: distances here are long.
Winter is the long-stay season. From December to February average daytime highs are about 66–71°F (19–22°C); from June to September they are above 100°F (38°C), according to NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for Sky Harbor Airport. January to March is also when hotels are busiest: in our own searches for January 2027, fewer hotels offered a single 28-night booking than a 14-night one, so plan the whole stay early.
Most long-stay guests here drive. Valley Metro's light rail runs along Central Avenue through Midtown to Downtown Phoenix, and from Downtown past the airport to Tempe and Mesa; at 44th Street the PHX Sky Train takes you to the terminals. Midtown, Downtown and Tempe work without a car; Scottsdale, Chandler and Gilbert mostly do not.
A month of meals out adds up quickly, which is why nine of the ten hotels above have a kitchen or kitchenette in the room. Parking differs: some of these hotels include it, others charge for it, and the hotel's description on its page says which.

13.07% of the room rate
Hotel tax in the Valley
Hotel stays in the city of Phoenix carry 13.07% in lodging taxes: 5.5% Arizona state tax, 1.77% Maricopa County and 5.8% City of Phoenix. Other cities in the Valley set their own rates: 11.67% in Chandler, 13.97% in Scottsdale, 14.07% in Tempe and 14.27% in Gilbert and Mesa.
